EO/AA joins Human Resources

The Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action (EO/AA) Office has joined the Human Resources division and is now located in College Hall, Room 316D.

Judith Hain, vice president for Human Resources, said the reorganization will benefit the entire campus community. "This is a wonderful opportunity that allows the EO/AA office and Human Resources to work closely to ensure greater diversity and an appreciation of diversity, as well as provide a synergy that may not have existed before," she said.

The office previously was located on the second floor of College Hall and was part of Legal Affairs and Governmental Relations.

Barbara Milton, who has been Montclair State's EO/AA officer for the past 10 years, is enthusiastic about the change. "I'm excited about becoming an integral part of the Human Resources division," Milton said. "I believe this move will help us better serve the campus community on all matters related to equal opportunity and affirmative action.

"Everyone in Human Resources has given me and my secretary, Jeri Shivers, a warm and receptive welcome," Milton added. "I'm looking forward to being a part of this division and working closely with Judith Hain, who has been extremely supportive."

As part of the reorganization, Milton now has dual reporting responsibilities to Hain and to the president, who said the change is part of her ongoing commitment to affirmative action. "The University's equal opportunity/affirmative action efforts are a natural part of Human Resources," said President Susan A. Cole. "I believe this reorganization will allow us to make great strides in this area."

Hain said the EO/AA office has a separate entrance from Human Resources. "While confidentiality is honored throughout Human Resources, we want to be sure to preserve the comfort and confidentiality of people coming to speak with Barbara," Hain said. "Anyone can get to EO/AA without coming into the main door of Human Resources.

"We want employees to know that there are various points of contact within Human Resources, such as the Vice President's Office, Employee Relations and Personnel Processing, to which they may come with concerns," she added. "And Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action is now one of them."
