MSU loses friend in passing of William Wimberly
"We lost more than a member of Montclair State's Board of Trustees when William Wimberly passed away," said President Susan A. Cole. "We lost a good friend whose lifelong dream of equal opportunity for all members of the community was applauded locally, regionally and nationally. He will be missed."
Wimberly, 62, passed away Jan. 28 after a heart attack. He had been a member of the University's Board of Trustees since 1987, serving for six years as vice chair. He was a member of the Facilities Committee, the Personnel Committee and the Appeals Committee, and worked with ad hoc committees as well. He chaired the Facilities Committee for 11 years and the Personnel Committee for one year.
"Bill was deeply committed to the Board because of his lifelong interest in opening educational opportunities for young people," Cole said. "Many members of the campus community knew Bill from his presence at numerous campus activities. He was always willing to listen and touched many lives with his genuine concern."
Surviving are his wife, Glenda; two daughters, Rianta Lee and Randi Sarah; four sons, Ryan William Reid, Anthony, William Jr. and Kevin Singleton.
A college fund has been established for the two youngest children. Contributions may be sent to Wimberly Children's Fund, P.O. Box 7098, West Orange, NJ, 07052.
