A group of MSU faculty, students and staff spent a weekend in the Granite State attending events leading to the first presidential primary held Feb. 1. Charles Feiner of Student Activities talks about the experience:
Every four years New Hampshire becomes a political junkies' nirvana. It is the place to be. It has been called "Mardi Gras without the booze" for sheer political excitement. Only in New Hampshire can you see all the political rallies, meet candidates in informal settings and chat with all your favorite television commentators.
Among the events we attended was a rally for Bill Bradley, at which time he made reference to the MSU people present and spoke of his wife's [Ernestine Schlant of German and Russian] 25 years as a Montclair State professor.
The group also attended a "town meeting" of Senator John McCain and a rally with Gov. George Bush. MSU students even had a private photo session with the presidential hopeful.
Needless to say, it was an exciting time for all who attended.
