Congratulations,
Class of 2000!
"Some people will tell you that the United States is no longer the place
where people can dream and I tell you to pay no attention to them," Antonia
Novello, the first woman and the first Hispanic to be appointed surgeon
general of the United States, told the 2000 graduating class at commencement
exercises May 22. "The American dream is alive and well and if you don't
believe that, look around you, at your teachers, your parents and your community.

President signs exchange agreement in Japan
Montclair State University President Susan A. Cole has signed an Academic
Exchange Agreement with Shinpei Kojima, president of Fukui University in
central Japan, that furthers academic exchange and cooperation in teaching

project has received $80,000 from MCI WorldCom to enhance existing Computer

Cutler named interim dean
Ada Beth Cutler of Curriculum
and Teaching has been named interim dean of the College of Education and
Human Services effective July 1. Nicholas Michelli, a 30-year veteran
of Montclair State who served 20 years as dean, has accepted a position
as dean for Teacher Education at the City University of New York. Full

After commencement, members of
the campus community and friends of the Cole family gathered in the University
Gallery for the opening of an exhibition of David Cole's recent works

Moms score
a goal for breast cancer research
What do you call a group of soccer
moms banding together to increase breast cancer awareness? Teamwork 2000,
and the moms took to Sprague and Pittser fields May 20 to go head-to-head,
or should we say foot-to-foot, in this fund-raising effort. The tournament
featured two divisions: four teams of soccer-playing mothers and women
- two from the township of Montclair and two from New York City - and
four teams of 11-to-16-year-old girls, also two teams from Montclair and
