Student wins Gates Millennium Scholarship
Student Ramon Galinanes, Jr. thinks nothing of giving freely of his time.
"I love doing volunteer work," said the senior history education major.
"I feel that my role on earth is not to make a lot of money, but instead
to make a positive contribution to society by dedicating most of my time
to the poor and the oppressed. That's what I'm all about." Full

High School students dig into science thanks
to Weston program
An innovative science program offered by the College of Science and Mathematics
in partnership with Montclair High School is giving high school students
the opportunity to "learn science by doing science."
The Weston Science Scholars Program, made possible by the support of
Judy and Joshua Weston of Montclair, is offering specially selected ninth
and 10th graders from MHS the opportunity to work with Ph.D. scientists
from Montclair State in conducting original research. Montclair State
faculty members are mentors to the high-achieving students who have shown
outstanding potential in science, mathematics and related fields. Faculty
mentors include Matthew Gorring and Duke Ophori of Earth and Environmental
Studies; Bonnie Lustigman, Scott Kight, Reginald Halaby, Lee Lee and Joseph
Campanella of Biology and Molecular Biology; and Renata Baily of Chemistry
and Biochemistry.

MSU establishes first campus Lion Club
Montclair State is the first university in New Jersey to start a campus
Lions Club. A charter luncheon was held last month, at which approximately
45 faculty members and students had the opportunity to sign the Lions Club
charter and meet members of other Lions Clubs. Full
