Bringing the world
closer to home...Montclair
State welcomed six international scholars to campus this fall. They are,
from left, Loick Varella of France, who is working with Lois Oppenheim
in the French Department; Vesselina Kouzmanova of Bulgaria, who is working
with Matthew Lipman in Philosophy for Children; Evgeniya Dammikova of
Ukraine, who is working in the Center of Pedagogy; Megan Laverty of Australia,
who also is working in Philosophy for Children; Pavel Lushyn of Ukraine,
who is in the Center for Pedagogy; and Yoko Sato of Japan, not pictured,
who is working in the Geology Department. Two more international scholars
from Slovakia, Jozef Bajus and Milos Boda, will arrive in October for
a one-month visit to work with Patricia Lay of Fine Arts.

Is "That's Life"
really life at Montclair State?
"That's Life,"
an autobiographical ensemble drama conceived and written by former Montclair
State student Diane Ruggiero, will debut on the CBS network Sunday, Oct.
1. The series will be broadcast Saturdays from 8 to 9 p.m., the time slot
held for five years by "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman." Full

Cole unveils extensive
plans for growth and development
Perhaps the biggest
news is that Montclair State received a special appropriation specifically
dedicated to allow the University to acquire 30 acres of undeveloped land
off Clove Road to build high-quality, modern student residences. The appropriation
includes a $3 million grant and a zero-interest loan of $3.5 million.Full

Sotillo studies Internet
language usage
Susana Sotillo is not just interested
in what people say; she's interested in how they say it, particularly
on the Internet. By working with a software program called TACT, which
allows users to analyze the content of text, Sotillo has delved into a
relatively new form of technological communicationÑcyber chat. Full

Studio Theatre
to be renovated and renamed
Thanks to a generous
gift from the Laraja Foundation, the Studio Theatre will be renovated
and renamed the L. Howard Fox Theatre. Fox was a faculty member at Montclair
State for 33 years. He was the founding chair of the Speech and Theatre
Department, and the consulting designer for both Memorial Auditorium
and the Studio Theatre. Full Story
