Ron Hollander of English, coordinator of the Journalism Program, was selected by College Media Advisers to receive the Distinguished Newspaper Adviser Award for his work advising The Montclarion. Hollander received the award earlier this month in Washington, D.C.

Judith Lin Hunt of Sprague Library presented "Information Resources in the Curriculum" at the Middle States Commission on Higher Education's Self-Study Institute held Nov. 8-9.

Michael James of Counseling, Human Development and Educational Leadership will have three articles published. The first is a teaching note in Radical Teacher about classroom use of videotape of protest against the war in Vietnam to prompt critical thinking and discussion of the nature of citizenship and moral responsibility. The others are works of fiction that will appear in Haz Mat, a publication of poetry, literature, art and criticism.

Robert McCormick of Psychology was quoted in an article about depression in Hispanic women that appeared in the November issue of Latina Magazine.

Dierdre Glenn Paul of Reading and Educational Media recently had an article, "Rap and Orality: Critical Media Literacy, Pedagogy and Cultural Synchronization," published in the November issue of Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy.

Dina Rosen of Human Ecology presented a workshop, "Integrating Computer Technology and Software into Developmentally Appropriate Early Childhood Classrooms," at the New Jersey Association for the Education of Young Children annual state conference. Teachers, administrators, professors and others concerned with the well-being of children up to eight years old attended the workshop.

Klaus Schnitzer of Fine Arts recently had his photographs published in the following national publications: Automobile, Bimmer, Cigar Aficionado, Forza, Hampton Country and Roundel. He also was an invited participant at "Pininfarina Car Design: The Creation of Lasting Beauty" at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology CC++ Consortium.

Paul Scipione of Marketing gave the annual invited Wadsworth Business Lecture at the State University of New York at Geneseo. Scipione read selected chapters and passages from his forthcoming book, A Nation of Numbers (Intertec/American Demographics, Spring 2001). Scipione also was a guest lecturer in a business law class and spoke with Geneseo business faculty on AACSB accreditation. He gave an invited lecture, "Is the World Flat or Round? World Knowledge Among U.S. vs. Non-U.S. College Students," at a SUNY Geneseo alumni breakfast in Rochester.

Rolf Sternberg of Earth and Environmental Science presented "The Latin Americanization of Electricity in South America" at the 50th International Congress of Americanists in Warsaw, Poland. Sternberg also presented "Hydroelectricity in the World Energy System" at the International Geographical Congress in Seoul, S. Korea.

Roger Zapata of Spanish and Italian presented a paper, "The Invention of the Postmodern Indian and the Native European: Indigenous movements in the Global Age," at the University of Tubingen, Germany on Nov. 22.

Michael Zey of Management presented "Information Technology and the New Economy" at an AT&T-sponsored forum for a select group of CEOs and CFOs of medium-sized and Fortune 500 companies. The presentation was held at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Ariz. John Wooten of TheatreFest received $27,000 from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts to support TheatreFest programming.

Football players named to NJAC all-conference team
The Montclair State football teamÑthe 2000 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) championsÑswept the post-season awards as the league announced its all-conference team Nov. 22.

Quarterback Ed Collins was named the Offensive Player of the Year, while lineman Kevin Kelly was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year. Head Coach Rick Giancola, who guided MSU to its 16th NJAC title and sixth National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III playoff berth, was named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. The Red Hawks totaled an impressive 16 players on the team:
First team: Ed Collins, Eric Magrini, Anthony Vitale, Gabe Gagliardo, Kevin Kelly, Carlos Bolanos, John Turi and Vic Mesce. Second team: Laquan Majette, Jamel Dorsey, Steve Ferrentinos, Al Cappello, Omar Lucas and Brent Grablachoff.

Honorable mention: Jim Wilkinson and Bill Heaney.

Admission free to basketball game when fans come with toys
Enjoy a Red Hawk basketball game and brighten a child's holiday season. Fans who bring toys to either the Red Hawk men's or women's basketball games on Dec. 9 will be admitted free as part of the Athletic Department's annual holiday toy drive sponsored by the TALON (Teaching Athletes Leadership Opportunities Now) Club.

Fans are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys suitable for children ages 3-14. The women's game begins at 2 p.m. followed by the men's game at 4 p.m. Both teams will face Rutgers-Camden.

Fans of opposing teams who bring toys also will be admitted free. All toys will be donated to the United Way.

Professor, department rewarded for meeting textbook deadline
Gerhard Lang of Educational Foundations will receive a $100 American Express gift certificate for meeting the deadline for spring textbook adoptions. Lang's name was chosen in a random drawing of the 150 faculty members who met the Oct. 16 deadline.

The Computer Science Department will receive a $500 credit at the University Bookstore for being one of the six departments whose entire faculty got their adoptions in on time. The winning department also was chosen in a random drawing that included six departments.

The President's Holiday Party will be held Thursday, Dec. 14, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballrooms.

Get 75 percent off books for children ages 4-12 at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center through Dec. 23. The Center is open Wednesday-Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Sodexho Marriott Services is selling pies for the holiday season. The cost is $9.95 for pecan pie, $7.95 for apple or sweet potato pie, and $7.50 for pumpkin pie. Pies can be picked up one to three days after ordering in the Student Center cafeteria between noon and 2 p.m. All pies will be boxed with a gold ribbon. The President's Conference Room, which has been enlarged and renovated, is available for use by the campus community for University business. Located in College Hall adjacent to the President's Office, Room 231, the room is equipped with a kitchen area, phone, refreshment area, and by the end of the month, complete multimedia presentation capability. The conference table seats 24. To reserve the conference room, call the President's Office at 4212.
