Dec. 5: "American Popular Literature as Seen Through Central European Eyes" by Nina Viertorova, a professor of American Studies in the Department of English Language and Literature at Comenius University in Slovakia. Her recent publications include Paul Austere's New York Trilogy, Postmodernism in English and American Literature and Original Voices in English and American Literature.

Kurt Weill's fusion of opera and the American musical with book by Elmer Rice and lyrics by Langston Hughes. Staged by Jeffrey Gall, "Street Scene" is a collaboration with the Music Department featuring gifted students and professional singers, accompanied by the MSU Symphony Orchestra. 7:30 p.m., Memorial Auditorium. Tickets: $15. Faculty, staff, students and alumni receive a $2.50 per ticket discount.
