For
the love of science...Nearly 50 ninth and 10th graders from Montclair
High School attended the recent Weston Science Scholars Program
open house. The students were given an overview of the program that
gives selected high school students the opportunity to work on scientific
research with Montclair State faculty. The program was established
last year with the support of Montclair residents Josh and Judy
Weston '77 M.A. (pictured at right). Pictured above, MSU senior
biology major Maria Agapito (seated) shows students the scanning
electron microscope in Science Hall.

Ticket
to Ride...Rocky, the Montclair State Red Hawk, greeted passengers
taking the annual legislative train ride to Washington on
Feb 1. The tradition began in 1937 when several of the state's
top business executives took a train to Washington to have
dinner with the New Jersey congressional delegation. Since
then, the State Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the annual
event and congressional dinner. The train starts out in Newark
and makes stops in Metro Park, Trenton, Philadelphia and Delaware.
Participants include business leaders, politicians and interest
groups. Pictured left, Rocky greets New Jersey State Republican
Chairman Chuck Haytaian and, right, poses for a photo with
Montclair Mayor Robert Russo.

Visiting professor addresses China's environmental
challenges
Lizhong Yu, a professor
and vice president of East China Normal University in Shanghai, is giving
students in the classes he's teaching here this semester two pieces of
advice: first, don't believe everything you see and read about China.
"Changes are happening every day," he said. "There can never be an exact
picture." His second piece of advice is never to use general terms to
describe a country as big and complex as China. "China is so diverse that
you can't generalize," he said. "Situations are different from place to
place."Full
