- The Sept. 25 event celebrating the opening of the Red Hawk Diner has
been postponed. A new date will be rescheduled in October.
-Montclair State University will offer scholarships to dependent students
who are New Jersey residents who lost their parents in the World Trade
Center disaster. "The tragic acts our country experienced Sept. 11
were the product of profound hate and ignorance," said Montclair
State President Susan A. Cole. "The only effective antidote to hate
is knowledge, understanding and a commitment to a common humanity. We
must educate ourselves to shape a world in which such things do not happen."
- The final report has been issued by Presidential
Task Force on Student Achievement. Members of the campus community
are urged to read the report as University Day, Oct. 24, will focus on
student achievement and the related issue of student retention. "Virtually
everyone on campus bears some responsibility in these areas, and we expect
the program to be of great value to many members of the campus community,"
said Provost Richard Lynde. Comments on the report and its recommendations
should be sent to Lynde by Oct. 1. The report and comments will be used
to prepare a Plan of Action that will be the basis of discussions on University
Day.
- In January, Elaine Hoff of Payroll Services asked the campus community
for assistance in collecting aluminum tabs from soda cans, which she donates
to the Ronald McDonald House for Kids. The organization recycles the tabs
for money that funds research and helps offset the cost of operating the
facility. To date, Hoff has collected nearly 10 pounds of tabs. "I'd
like to thank all the members of the Montclair State community who contribute
to the collection," Hoff said. "Envelopes of rings appear mysteriously
on my desk, and others give me handfuls of tabs when then see me. Many
people are benefiting from this effort. Keep those tabs coming!"
