A Montclair State University employee, who
wishes to remain anonymous, but goes by the Muslim name of Surayyah bint
James Jones, shares her views about Tuesdays terroristic act.
First let me say that I was born in this country 37 years ago. I embraced
Islam along with my immediate family nine years ago. In all my studies of
Islam, I have not come across anything in the Quran or the Traditions of
the Prophet to condone the actions of the persons responsible for the events
that took place on Tuesday. I am embarrassed to have Islam associated with
such actions. While Islam does call for fighting, the fighting is for the
establishment of Islam or to prevent the Muslims from being expelled from
their homes. Allah has made Jihad obligatory upon the men only. This would
make the using of women and children prohibited. Allah has also made the
killing of oneself a sin.
For us Americans, this is the first time since Pearl Harbor that we have
seen war up close. We forget or refuse to see that there are others around
the world who live with death, bombs and gunfire as a way of life. They,
too, have had their entire families wiped out. Many of them are maimed and
disfigured. I have seen young children, no more than 8 or 9 years old, walking
around with machine guns, having full resolve to shoot to kill.
I have seen pictures of mothers holding the lifeless bodies of their children
wondering why. Ask yourself how many times you have looked at the news and
seen the images of these people and never allowed yourself to feel anything
for them. Are our feelings of sorrow only reserved for Americans? Are they
not human beings as well?
I offer my sincere prayers for the Muslims around the world, I ask Allah
to give them the true understanding of this beautiful way of life so they
will not continue to behave in such a hideous manner. I pray that Allah
will protect the Muslims who may unfortunately become the next victims in
this war.
