What we can do

  • Donate blood. There are several places in the area where donations of blood can be made. The University is trying to arrange holding a blood drive on campus in the next few weeks. Susan Skalsky of the Health and Wellness Center says blood donations will be needed for at least the next eight weeks.

  • Buy a pin. Red, white and blue pins are being sold for a $1 donation in the Student Center lobby; the Student Activities office, Student Center, Rm 104; and at the Center for Community-Based Learning, Morehead Hall, Rm 338. Money raised will go to the American Red Cross New York City Disaster Relief Fund. This effort is being sponsored by the Presidential Leaders Program, the Center for Community-Based Learning and Student Activities, with support from Talley's Trophy in Little Falls.

  • Donate clothing and food. The Discount Furniture Mart on Route 46 West in Clifton is collecting items for disaster relief. The following items are needed:
    Blankets
    Socks
    T-Shirts
    Face masks
    Batteries
    Flashlights
    Large leather gloves
    Work gloves
    Hand trucks
    Dollies
    Rubber boots
    Canned food
    Dry food
Paper products (plates, napkins and cups)
    Bottled water.
For more information, call Sue or Joanne at 973-773-3300.
  • Fabric of Freedom. Write messages, reflections, thoughts or feelings to be added to the Fabric of Freedom banner. Student Center lobby. For more information, call Marie Cascarano, at 7397.

  • Be there. Be ready to help family, friends and colleagues who may need assistance coping with this national tragedy.

  • Pray. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday Sept. 18, at 12:30 p.m., in Dickson Hall, Cohen Lounge. An Ecumenical Memorial Prayer Service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 19, at noon in the Student Center, Ballroom A.

Members of the Montclair State community joined hands at Thursday's Unity Collaboration as an expression of solidarity and peace.
