Marketing & Communications, editor@mail.montclair.edu, (973) 655-4333 "We are excited that this outstanding science competition will again be held at Montclair State University," said Dr. Robert Prezant, Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics. "We expect hundreds of outstanding students from 17 middle schools and 18 high schools from across Northern New Jersey to compete. The Science Olympiad covers a wide range of subject matter, from biology and earth science to chemistry, physics, computers and technology. These challenging categories require mastery and knowledge of facts, concepts, processes, skills and scientific applications." According to Dr. Jinan Jaber, assistant Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics and regional tournament director, "Preparing and participating in such competitions would hopefully encourage students to consider careers in science, technology, research and engineering at an early age. Through recognition of their achievement in these areas, students will be motivated and inspired to continue their scientific inquiries and pursuits." The New Jersey Science Olympiad has been on the leading edge of educational innovations since 1993. These innovations include high academic standards; demonstration of skills through performance testing; learning through hands-on, minds-on activities; cooperative learning through events that require teamwork; and improved self-concept through success in achieving high standards.
