Doby followed Jackie Robinson into the big leagues by 11 weeks and went on to a Hall of Fame career with the Cleveland Indians. While Robinson's saga is well known, however, the story of the second man to break baseball's color barrier is not. Helping tell that story is Joseph Thomas Moore, an emeritus professor of history at Montclair State University. Moore is the author of the book Pride against Prejudice: The Biography of Larry Doby, and served as principal consultant for the Showtime film. "Larry Doby deserves more than a plaque in Cooperstown," Moore said. "He deserves a place in United States history." Doby lived in Montclair for many years before his death in 2003 and received an honorary degree from Montclair State University in 1987. Showtime will rebroadcast the special, the full title of which is "Bud Greenspan Presents: Pride against Prejudice - The Larry Doby Story," on various dates throughout February as part of Black History Month.
