MONTCLAIR, NJ-Jeff Friedman, former Newark station manager and executive producer at NJN, Public Television, was recently named the new director of Montclair State University's Dumont Television Center.

In this position, Friedman will work directly with the campus community. He will be responsible for the Center's digital conversion as well as promoting interactions between students and television professionals.

"I'm confident that Friedman's extensive expertise will prove valuable for this position," said Geoffrey Newman, dean of the College of the Arts. "The students will learn the dynamics of the television industry from an experienced leader."

Friedman has worked as a senior-level manager, producer, director and production executive in the New York, Philadelphia and New Jersey markets. He recently directed The Charlie Rose Show and Bach to the Future, an orchestral performance and education special featuring the Philharmonic Orchestra of New Jersey. Both programs air on PBS stations across the country. Friedman also produced and directed The Newsmaker of the Year Awards for network cablecast on Comcast and The Inner City
Awards for WPIX-RV, New York. Other projects include directing the national PBS Series Inside The Law, hosted by Court TV's Jack Ford, Due Process telecast on NJN, Public Television and One on One with Steve Adubato on Comcast's CN8 network.

Friedman has been nominated for more than 50 Emmy Awards and received 12 Emmy's, including the 2005 New York Emmy for Outstanding Societal Concerns Programming/Series. Friedman has received an array of broadcasting excellence awards including two Cine Golden Eagles, as well as top recognitions from The Chicago International Film Festival and The Society of Professional Journalists. He is also the recipient of the 1997 Distinguished Alumni Citation at Montclair State. In addition to teaching at Montclair State, Friedman has also lectured at Rutgers
University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Caldwell College and for private industry.
