The George Segal Gallery of Montclair State University presents "Contemporary Printmaking at the Crossroads," an exhibition investigating the ways digital processes are transforming contemporary printmaking.

The exhibit runs from September 11 to November 10 at the gallery, located between
the Red Hawk Parking Deck, 4th floor, and the Kasser Theatre on the Montclair State campus.

As part of the exhibit, printmaking artists and museum curators will participate in a
symposium at the gallery at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 30, on how traditional printmaking processes and digital technologies are evolving and overlapping into the creation of hybrid works of art, changing how we define prints today.

Printmaking has often been called a "democratic medium," embracing traditional techniques from etching, woodcut, lithography and silkscreen to more contemporary, complex processes involving photo, laser stenciling and digital inkjet printing.

Digital technologies are transforming the contemporary print practice, creating new
opportunities for extending visual communication, collaboration and critical discourse among artists, curators, educators and students.

Participating artists in the exhibit are Richard Barnes, A. J. Bocchino, David Byrne,
Willie Cole, Karin Davie, Benjamin Edwards, Carl Fudge, Jane Hammond, Imi Hwangbo, Jane Kent, Robert Lazzarini, Nancy Macko, Vic Muniz, Barbara Robertson, Holli Schorno, Kiki Smith, Joan Snyder and Corban Walker.

The exhibit was organized by Catherine Bebout, associate professor in the Department of Art and Design, College of the Arts, Montclair State University, and by Mary Birmingham, an independent curator and writer as well as an adjunct professor of art history at the university.

Gallery hours are Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please call the gallery for directions and further information at (973) 655-3382 or (973) 655-5113.

Montclair State University
