South Asia economy topic of new book

UPPER MONTCLAIR, N. J. -- Dr. C. Jayachandran, director of Montclair State Universityıs Center for International Business, is the co-editor (along with N. Balasubramanian and S.M. Dastagir) of "Managing Economic Liberalisation (cq) in South Asia: Directions for the 21st Century."

The book, published by Macmillian India Limited, contains the papers presented at the conference, "Managing Economic Liberalisation in South Asia: Directions for the 21st Century," held last August at Chennai, India. The conference provided a forum for analyzing the direction and implications of the opening of South Asian markets and production systems to the salutory but potentially destabilizing effects of global competition. The experience of India and other Asian governments, as well as opportunities and management challenges facing private and state- owned enterprises, foreign ventures, financial and other service organizations in the liberalization process were addressed at the conference. Jayachandran was the organizer of the conference.

At the gathering, sponsored by MSU, scholars from 64 countries and business schools in 17 countries shared their thoughts and experiences with academics and practitioners from the Indian sub-continent and other participating countries. The book includes 77 scholarly papers from 64 universities representing 17 countries. The papers cover a broad range of business issues pertaining to economic liberalization in South Asia -- covering theoretical and empirical aspects as well as case studies.

"The book would be of immense value to policy-makers and senior corporate executives," the publisher says. Jayachandran, a professor of marketing and international business at MSU, was formerly at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore as an associate professor and coordinator of the Marketing Area. He holds masterıs and Ph.D. degrees in economics from the University of Madras. He has published widely in international journals and has co-edited the book, "International Business with China: Opportunities and Challenges."

MSU is located at the intersection of Valley Road and Normal Avenue in Upper Montclair. The campus is one mile south of the junction of routes 3 and 46, 14 miles west of New York City.
