On Thursday, Dec. 3, John Bromberg will speak on "Uncovering the Discourses of Galileo." Through the use of projections, puppets and performances, Bromberg and members of Agalmata Neurospasta Theatre Ensemble will take the audience through hidden aspects of the world of "Galileo's Discourses." Presented in conjunction with a gallery installation in the University Gallery, it might well be the missing link between bewilderment and understanding. Bromberg is a sculptor, performing artist and puppeteer whose performance works are a fusion of sculpture and theatre. His work has been recognized through various grants and awards, including the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Andy Warhol Foundation.
On Thursday, Dec. 10, Pamela Wye will speak. "She makes a whimsical yet serious contribution to the discussion of female sexuality in current art," according to Jay Murphy in Art in America. She paints fragmented anatomical parts -- faces, breasts and limbs along with biomorphic forms and images from popular culture as diverse as the fictional character Heidi and golf instruction diagrams. Words and doodles often find their way into her work as does humor and reverie. She will discuss her paintings, drawings, computer images and her writing as well as her influences. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and her art writing has been widely published. She is represented by Louise Ross Gallery in New York City, where she will exhibit during the current season.
