A document released by the association, Commitment and Success: A Compendium of Best Practices at AASCU Institutions, notes that many state colleges and universities, Montclair State among them, have responded to calls from policymakers and others for more efficiency and accountability
"We are delighted with this designation," said Pompton Lakes resident Freyda Lazarus, director of Career Development at MSU. "When students 'experience' the human problems in our local community, they gain a greater appreciation of the role an individual citizen can play in addressing community needs."
The AASCU is a Washington-based higher education association of more than 425 public colleges and universities and higher education systems across the United States.
MSU is located at the intersection of Valley Road and Normal Avenue in Upper Montclair. The campus is one mile south of the junction of routes 3 and 46, 14 miles west of New York City.
