The articles and books include both the research literature on teaching and learning and the reflective writings of scholars who teach. Some of the videotapes are commercially produced documentaries on teaching, but most of them come out of the Research Academy's work, including interviews with outstanding teachers. The Research Academy also videotapes some of its forums. Patrons may check out materials or acquire bibliographies on certain topics.

One of the most common and valuable services the Research Academy provides for faculty members and teaching assistants is producing prepared bibliographies on topics they select. A faculty member teaching a large lecture course for the first time, for example, might request information on making lectures more interactive. A teaching assistant undertaking her first freshman seminar, and uncertain about how she will stimulate student conversation in her classroom, might request materials on initiating and guiding student discussion. A faculty member teaching a required distribution course might request materials on learning and student motivation, hoping to capture and engage the interest of actors, historians, psychologists and anthropologists in her course in the hard sciences. In all of these cases, we can put together bibliographies for the interested teacher, collect the materials for her, and oftentimes even send them out via campus mail. We can conduct these searches ourselves or assist the faculty member in conducting them on her own, both in our own library and in the university library. We can make the bibliographies more or less extensive, depending upon the time and energy the faculty member has to invest in her research in these areas.

We also offer a general bibliography on teaching and learning, which contains some of the most influential and important introductions to, and basic works on, learning theory and teaching practice. To request copies, contact the Research Academy at Teach-Learn@mail.montclair.edu
