Montclair State University does not have a minimum score or GPA for incoming freshmen. Most students who are admitted to MSU as freshmen have a solid B average in a strong college prep curriculum, and are usually ranked among the top quarter of their high school class. The average SAT score is approximately 1100 combined (or 25 on the ACT). Students should keep in mind that these numbers are averages, and not a strict measurement. Students with very strong high school records can compensate for lower SAT scores and still be offered admission. A strong high school record is always more important than standardized test scores.

The university does accept AP and CLEP credits. Students must have their official test scores or official transcripts sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. We also accept credits that a student earns while taking a college level course in high school which is affiliated with another college or university.
