College life is more than a classroom experience.Whether you live on campus or commute from home, we want Montclair State to be your home away from home.
The Center for Student Involvement provides special programs and services for commuter students through CARS (Commuter Association Resources and Services). You don’t have to live on campus to enjoy all that Montclair State has to offer.
Our special interest living communities enable residential students to live among people with whom they share interests. For example, our First Year Connections living community puts incoming freshmen together in a residence hall that has common areas where new students can meet and mingle. Whether it’s our international living community—in a residence hall that has cooking facilities and is open all year to host our international students—or living communities for arts students or students majoring in science and mathematics, we want your residence experience here to be enjoyable as you learn and build lifelong friendships.
With more than 120 student organizations, a new fitness facility and residence halls, and 17 varsity sports for men and women, Montclair State University takes pride in offering the total college experience.
As the second largest university in New Jersey, Montclair State University has a wonderfully diverse campus community. Our Center for Student Involvement’s goal is to provide clubs, organizations, activities, and events to meet the needs of all of our students. Intramural sports, cultural or religious organizations, service- and volunteer-based organizations, and student government all fall under the umbrella of campus life. So whether you are interested in the Accounting Club or the Paintball Team, Fashion or Fencing, Rugby, Rhythm Nation Dance, or Greek life, there is a club for you.
Our state-of-the-art, 78,000-square-foot Student Recreation Center features a six-lane swimming pool; a two-court gymnasium with an elevated running track; two racquetball courts; two-level fitness, strength and cardio training areas; space for aerobics and other fitness activities; locker rooms; and a snack bar.
A healthy, vibrant campus life requires safety and security – areas in which Montclair State University is a national leader. Montclair State’s innovative safety practices have earned national awards, prompted news coverage from the national and international press, and inquiries from other colleges and universities looking to follow our lead.
Montclair State is a recipient of the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Award, which is presented each year by Security On Campus, Inc., to honor schools and individuals who have taken extraordinary measures to prevent violence, substance abuse, and other crimes in college and university campus communities across the United States.
