Honors & Special Programs

Honors Program

Conceived in 1985 by faculty who relish the stimulation of working with exceptional students, the Honors Program has produced graduates who succeed in every field of endeavor. Some of its alumni have gone on to study for doctorates from Temple, Yale, and New York Universities, while others have graduated from medical school. Among program graduates are members of "Big Six" accounting firms, art scholars, writers, musicians, illustrators, social workers, business leaders, researchers, and master teachers. It is worth noting that every one of its students who has applied to law school has been admitted.

Regardless of their specialties, passions, or goals, all of these remarkable students found the resources they needed to grow and develop at Montclair State.

EOF Program

The Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program provides special admission, financial aid, and academic support services for highly motivated low-income students who do not meet Montclair State University’s regular admission criteria. Students admitted to the program must be members of economically disadvantaged families, have a background of academic under preparedness, but demonstrate potential to be successful in college. Typically, EOF student scores on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) are relatively low and make them ineligible for regular admission, even though class ranks and grade point averages may be competitive. Also, many EOF students are the products of "special needs" school districts where the quality of education is below par based on standardized test scores and other indicators.

Visiting Student Program

If you are an undergraduate student (i.e. you have not been awarded a bachelor’s degree) who is currently enrolled and in good academic standing at a regionally accredited college or university, you are eligible to enroll as a Visiting Student. Enrollment as an undergraduate Visiting Student is a temporary status that Montclair State University makes available to students who are matriculated at other institutions. Please contact us for further information about this program.

International Student Program

An International Student Applicant is someone who requires an F-1 student visa to enter the United States or is currently studying in the United States on an F-1 or J-1 visa. More information on obtaining a visa and additional services for international students can be found through our Global Education Center.

Presidential Leaders Program

Montclair State University recognizes that there are a number of high school students who have excelled outside of the classroom participating in co-curricular and civic activities and, in doing so, have developed important leadership skills. For this reason, the University established a Presidential Leaders Program for students who may have difficulty meeting the traditional standards for admission, but exemplify qualities of good citizenship and character that have been developed through their leadership activities. Please contact us to nominate a student for this program.
