College of the Arts

We blend small classes with the one-on-one attention of a private conservatory and with the expertise and exposure of a public institution. You’ll work with a dynamic faculty of composers, graphic designers, film directors and other working professionals in the fine, performing and communication arts, many from the New York metropolitan area. The College of the Arts also connects you to a prestigious list of globally recognized guest artists, state-of-the-art performance facilities and those with a direct line to a professional life in the arts.

Get a head start on your professional career with Montclair State’s highly competitive Musicle Theatre program. You’ll take advantage of joint productions and internship opportunities that connect you to the country’s most dynamic theatrical environment. Recent productions have included: Anything Goes, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, Hair, and The Producers.

John J. Cali School of Music

We nurture creative exploration for student in performance, jazz, music education, composition and music therapy. Students study with a world-class faculty drawn from the finest musicians and scholars in the New York metropolitan area and beyond. The Cali School takes full advantage of our proximity to the cultural riches of the region, including opportunities to perform in many of its world-renowned venues. And with more than 300 performances and master classes each year by students, faculty and guest artists, you will be inspired and prepared to serve the community as an educator, performer, therapist ans scholar in the musical arts.

My main thing is music, and I live, breathe and eat music. But I don’t sense a disconnect from the music building to the English Department or the Science Department. It still feels like everyone’s connected on campus.

We’ll put you at the nexus of the rapid technological changes that are redefining our lives. Whether you want to make films, produce television programs or take the internet by storm, our groundbreaking, cross-platform learning experiences will prepare you to make a meaningful impact. Courses are taught by Emmy award-winning faculty experts.

Internships available with media and industry partners across the NYC region. SCM students have interned at major media entities like ABC, Disney Enterprises and Viacom/MTV.
