Attorney Alumni Network Gathering 
The first Attorney Alumni Network gathering was held on Tuesday, November 15. As guest speakers, Joyce M. Smith, Esq. ’94, Chief Legal Officer of Prudential Trust Company, and Steven M. Resnick, Esq. ’93, Shareholder at Budd Larner, P.C., each spoke about their experience as Montclair State students, crediting faculty with providing the inspiration to pursue a legal career and the tools to succeed. They encouraged attorney alumni and current law students to remain connected with the Department of Political Science and Law and the faculty they know and admire.
During his talk, Mr. Resnick announced his intention to set up a scholarship in honor of two admired faculty: Dr. Marilyn Tayler and Dr. David Benfield. The scholarship will benefit a Political Science and Law student in need of tuition assistance for his/her undergraduate studies in preparation for law school. Adele, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga...and Montclair State: 2012 Grammy Nominees Announced
The nominees for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards have been announced and the names of John J. Cali School of Music Professor Robert Aldridge and the Montclair State University Singers appear among them.
Heading the nominations for Montclair State is Robert Aldridge and his opera Elmer Gantry, which received a nomination for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. Additionally, the CD of the opera, “Aldridge: Elmer Gantry,” received a nomination as Best Engineered Album, Classical; and the CD’s producer, Blanton Alspaugh, received a nomination for Producer of the Year, Classical. Montclair State to Provide Home to NJTV's News Program
When NJTV launched this past July, the public television network immediately began looking for a New Jersey-based production home for its news division. Today Montclair State University and NJTV announced that the University, with its unparalleled communications program and state-of-the-art DuMont Television Center, will provide broadcast studio space as well as production facilities and office space for NJ Today, NJTV’s weekly-nightly news program. The SHIP Sails on at Montclair State
 Montclair State University’s College of Science and Mathematics (CSAM) recently recognized some of its top students and thanked program funders at the second Science Honors Innovation Program (SHIP) Funders’ Breakfast. The SHIP program, made possible through generous grants from Merck and The Roche Foundation, offers undergraduate students the opportunity to become involved in the research community, get a head start on graduate school, and to compete for awards, fellowships, and admission into top PhD programs. The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program in Developmental Models of Autism Intervention (DMAI) prepares teachers and other educators, mental health practitioners and allied health professionals to use assessment, education and intervention strategies to work with children with autism and their families. Act Now - Special Giving Opportunity Ends Soon
If you are over 70 1/2 and have a traditional or Roth IRA, you may wish to consider a special provision that allows completely tax-free charitable distributions of IRA funds directly to Montclair State University or other qualified charitable recipients through Dec. 31, 2011. Such gifts will count toward mandatory withdrawal amounts. Gifts can be made in this way in amounts up to $100,000 per donor. The provision expires at the end of the year. D'Andrea Named to AFCA All-America Team
 Senior running back Chris D'Andrea (Union, NJ / Union) earned a a spot on the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III All-America released on Tuesday.
D'Andrea was among the 25 players chosen to this year's team. The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best — the coaches themselves.[View full details]
Women's Indoor Track and Field Ends 2011 on High Note at Princeton New Year's Invite
The Montclair State women’s indoor track and field team posted several outstanding performances as the Red Hawks finished off the 2011 calendar portion of their schedule at the Princeton New Year’s Invite at Jadwin Gymnasium on Saturday.
Junior Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) placed fourth in the 600 meters as she registered a qualifying mark of 1:36.90 against the field of Division I and III competitors. She then anchored the 4x400 relay team which also recorded a ECAC Championship qualifying mark as the group of Stephanie Fego (Verona, NJ /Verona), Imani Jones (Roselle, NJ / Abraham Clark), Beaira Thomas (Irvington, NJ / Science Park) and Gearity timed in at 4:06.19 to finish ninth overall. Frank Iannucci '03 '10 MA
Frank Iannucci ’03 ’10 MA was completely unsuspecting when he walked into what he thought was a typical assembly on November 4 at West Orange (NJ) High School, where he has taught math and computer science for the past five years. “I was told representatives from the state would be talking about education and good educators,” he recalled. In attendance among the room full of teachers and students was Andy Smarick, state deputy education commissioner, and Michael Milken, co-founder of the Milken Foundation, which awards an annual national educator award. Laureen Ong ’74 knows better than anyone that the days of passive television viewing are gone. Today’s viewers watch their favorite shows with the expectation of gaining something from the experience or being motivated to take action. “What we do is inspire you,” says Ong, who took over as president of the Travel Channel in April 2010 after three years as chief operating officer for Star Limited Group, a global television network based in Hong Kong.
