Homecoming 2011 - Spend the Day!

Come back to campus for Homecoming! There will be fun, food, and festivities for the whole family. Start your day with a stop at the Welcome Tent and pick up your alumni gift. While you are there, sign up for a campus tour see the many exciting changes taking place on campus – like the new student housing complex , The Heights, that has added accommodations for nearly 2000 students. Gather with fellow graduates at one of the signature alumni Homecoming events: the All Alumni BBQ & Beer Tasting celebrating the Class of 1986 25th Reunion or the Recent Alumni Tailgate. Bring the family to the campus carnival and enjoy food concession booths, carnival rides, face painting, Halloween costume parade, inflatable rides, and more. Cheer the Red Hawks on to victory as Montclair State takes on Western Connecticut at 2 p.m. Spend the evening and attend one of the many performances and exhibitions on campus. Career Resource Seminar Series: Self-Assessment - October 20
Are you interested in affirming your career interests? Are you unsure about how your preferences align with the world of work? If you're answering yes, then this seminar is for you! We'll discuss the benefits of self-assessment, while highlighting the need to identify themes and patterns. Join us on Thursday, October 20 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in University Hall, ADP Center, Room 1121. This seminar will take place in a computer lab and offers the opportunity to complete online self-assessments, including the Holland Code Quiz for self-assessment and the Keirsey Temperament Sorter (similar to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator).

Recent Alumni Network Gathering at Homecoming
Come back to campus on Saturday, October 29 for Homecoming and join in the fun with the Recent Alumni Network for a tailgate from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Participate in the student-alumni cornhole, ladder golf, hoops, and soccer competitions while the DJ adds entertainment. Grab a hot dog or hamburger at the food concession and enjoy a refreshment from the beer concession (for those over 21 years of age). A variety of beers will be available from local Cricket Hill Brewery, including their East Coast Lager, Colonel Blides Cask Ale, and Nocturne Dark Ale. Bring the family for lots of fun with inflatable rides, face painting, balloon art, and more.

Montclair State University is committed to strengthening its global presence through its alumni network and student recruitment efforts. As a result, the Office of Alumni Relations is partnering with the Global Education Center to enhance outreach and communication with international alumni. Established in 1991, the Global Education Center at Montclair State consolidates the University's international initiatives and provides leadership and organizational focus for the University's globalization. The Center coordinates all international activities on campus, advances international objectives across colleges and schools, builds alliances, creates and cultivates international partnerships and serves as an international resource for the campus and the community. “Military Friendly School” Distinction is Three-peat for Montclair State
G.I. Jobs, the premier magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has awarded Montclair State University the designation of Military Friendly School for the third year in a row. The 2012 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students. Montclair State Celebrates Constitution Day 2011
Created to commemorate the signing of the Constitution by the Founding Fathers in September 1787, Constitution Day is celebrated on many campuses around the country. At Montclair State, the day’s events are sponsored and organized by the American Democracy Project.
Constitution Day featured a swearing-in ceremony for candidates for U.S. citizenship, a panel discussion of deans and faculty, and a talk by Eric Greitens, a humanitarian and author. The day concluded with a student leader panel where students discussed the impact of the Constitution on their lives and celebrated the 224th anniversary of its signing. [View full details]

Athletics Events and Gatherings During Homecoming
Be sure to catch the Homecoming games! First, catch the football game, as the Red Hawks take on Western Connecticut at 2:00 p.m. at Sprague Field. Hear the Homecoming King/Queen and parade winners announced and watch half-time show will include recognition of MSU Hall of Fame Members and a performance by the Drums of Thunder. Next, cheer on the field hockey team as the Red Hawks play against Wilkes at 7:00 p.m.at Sprague Field.
If you haven’t seen the renovated Panzer Athletic Center, now is your opportunity! Students will be available for tours between 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Stop by for a tour, or grab a cup of coffee and sit for a while. Don’t miss the new Peter M. Altieri Athletic Hall of Fame Room. Homecoming is a perfect opportunity for athletic groups to gather. Alumni of the Swimming and Diving Team will compete against the current Varsity team at the Alumni Swimming & Diving Meet at 11:00 a.m. in the Panzer Athletic Center Pool. The meet will be followed by a reception and celebration of the 1987 Swim Team and All Americans. 1947 Undefeated Football Team Reunites
The first undefeated team in Montclair State history reunited on September 24 as several members of the 1947 football team were on hand for the Red Hawks' 53-24 victory over Buffalo State. The group gathered together and renewed acquaintances with their former teammates at a luncheon inside the Peter M. Altieri Hall of Fame Room inside the Panzer Athletic Center before being introduced during a halftime ceremony. [View full details]
Alumni Profiles
Chris Fitzpatrick '04
Christopher Fitzpatrick graduated from the School of Business at Montclair State University in 2004. He was a double major in Management and Marketing. While at Montclair, Chris was an actively involved member of the campus community. Throughout his college career, he was a member of numerous student organizations and clubs. Most notably, he served as Legislator for the Student Government Association (SGA) from 1991-2001 and Vice President from 2001-2002. He was then elected President of the SGA from 2002-2003. During his tenure with the SGA, Chris developed SGA Cabinet positions for Director of Multicultural Relations and Director of Commuter Affairs. Chris played an integral role as Founder and Charter President of A.S.S.I.S.T. He is a proud member of the 1999-2000 Wrestling team. In addition, he was a voting member of various other clubs, including the Conservation Club, NAACP, MSU Green Party, and Student Voter Coalition. [View full details]
Jana Polsky '80
Jana Polsky is an award-winning Writer/Producer for the WESTWOOD ONE Radio Networks, where she creates on-air sales and promotional projects for advertisers and affiliated stations. She writes and produces client commercials, added-value promotions, on-air vignettes, sales demos, video presentations and on-air promos for the 500+ CBS News affiliated radio stations. She has been nominated three times for a Writers Guild of America Award for outstanding work in on-air promotion and was honored with two Gracie Awards from the Foundation for American Women in Radio and Television.
Ms. Polsky is a proud graduate of Montclair State University. She is actively involved with the Broadcasting Alumni group at the university and serves as a student mentor.[View full details] |
