Street Smart Self Defense Seminar Teaches Alumni Techniques to Stay Safe on the Streets
More than 25 alumni and students gathered on February 23 in Dickson Hall, Cohen Lounge to learn techniques to keep them safe on the streets. Graduates spanning from the class of 1959 to the most recent graduating class to students preparing to graduate in 2012 and 2013 came together for a fun and informative session on self-defense techniques. Teaching a practical and effective method of street-smart self-defense, the seminar utilized training techniques that are geared towards a real world approach that help the participant to gain confidence and provided the tools necessary to survive and escape a realistic encounter. Second Annual Signature Wine Tasting Gives Alumni a Taste of Spain
On March 8, over 100 alumni and their guests attended the Second Annual Signature Wine Tasting which was located in The Conference Center in University Hall. The setting was a million-dollar panoramic view of the Manhattan skyline. The evening was kicked off by opening remarks from Jeanne Marano, Executive Director in the Office of Alumni Relations. The event was then turned over to Keith Pignataro, a Wine Associate at Gary’s Wine and Marketplace. School of Business Team Makes CFA Institute Research Challenge® Final Four

Economic Impact Report Measures Montclair State’s Value to New Jersey
Montclair State University recently released its 2011-2012 Economic Impact Report outlining the positive contributions the University’s $396.5 million in economic activity made to the economy and quality of life of New Jersey in fiscal 2011. Robert Aldridge Takes Home Two Grammys - "Elmer Gantry" is Best New Classical Composition and Best Engineered Album, Classical

Professor Robert Aldridge of Montclair State University’s John J. Cali School of Music received the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony held February 12 in Los Angeles. Professors Elizabeth Wishnick and Fawzia Afzal-Khan Receive Prestigous Awards

Associate Professor of Political Science and Law Elizabeth Wishnick and Professor of English Fawzia Afzal-Khan have received two of the nation’s most prestigious awards. Last fall, Wishnick, learned of her four-month appointment as a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC while researching a book in Beijing. All in the (Montclair State) Family: Carmelita Todaro Perone ’64 
When longtime loyal donor Carmelita “Lita” Todaro Perone ’64 first came to Montclair State from Newark in September of 1960, she had no way of knowing that she was starting a family tradition that continues to this day.
She graduated in the class of 1964 as a business education major. Her sister Linda Todaro Montanino ’68 and her brothers Russell Todaro ’74 and Anthony Todaro ’81 are also alumni. In addition, both of her children, Nicholas Perone ’90 and Carla Perone ‘95, went to her alma mater (both were math majors). [View full details]

1987 National Championship Baseball Team to be Honored at Doubleheader

Men's, Women's Lacrosse Teams Picked to Win Skyline Conference in Preseason Polls

The Montclair State men’s and women’s lacrosse teams, which both captured Skyline Conference Championships in 2011 were both picked to finish first in the league’s 2012 Preseason Coaches Poll. The men’s team, winners of three straight league titles, finished tied with Farmingdale State for the top spot while the women received eight of nine first-place votes. [View full details]

The Montclair State Red Hawk football program will hold its 8th Annual Alumni Beefsteak on Thursday, April 5, 2012 in Wayne, NJ. David Cirino ’04

David Cirino ’04 is a singer, songwriter, rapper, producer and engineer. His latest accomplishments include releasing a mixtape, Dragon Theory, and partnering with a licensing company, Aperture Music, who was able to get his song national airplay on NBC’s hit sitcom, Up All Night. Cirino recently paid a visit to campus to see how things have changed and to reflect back on his experiences at Montclair State University. Cirino’s major was Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems. While that may seem to be a stretch from his current career in the music industry, Cirino actually relates the two and credits his time here to much of his success. [View full details]

Dr. Sheryl Cohn ’75 MA is theauthor of the book The Boy in the Suitcase, Holocaust Family Stories of Survival, acompilation of stories about families throughout theworld who have been affected by the Holocaust. Cohn, who received her master’s in Educational Psychology, is in the process of transitioning from ten years in the education field and making her return to psychology. [View full details]
David Keefe ’09 MFA

David Keefe ’09 MFA served in the United States Marine Corps from 2002-2009 and completed a tour of combat duty in Iraq from 2006-2007. Keefe is also a Director and Coordinator for the Combat Paper Program at the Printmaking Center of New Jersey. Keefe has also been teaching Beginning Painting at Montclair State University since 2009. Combat Paper is a community of veterans dedicated to the process of deconstructing, reclaiming, and communicating their military experiences to the world. [View full details]
