Tickets are now onsale for the first annual Montclair Film Festival featuring over 45 films with live participation by special guests, including Kathleen Turner, Olympia Dukakis, Michael Moore, Patrick Wilson, Oliver Platt, and more. Montclair State University is a sponsor of the festival. Following, find information on the three Montclair State related events. Attend the Opening Night Gala & Screening of The Oranges on May 1 and the screening of Undefeated on May 3 at Kasser Theater. On Friday, May 4, attend New Visions, a special showcase of film shorts created by undergraduate students, at Clairidge Cinema.

History Department Annual Student Awards Ceremony

Barnet/Segal: It Runs in the Family

The talents of second generation artists, Peter Barnet and Rena Segal—the son and daughter of famed contemporary artists Will Barnet and George Segal—are the focus of Barnet/Segal: It Runs in the Family, an art exhibition at Montclair State University’s George Segal Gallery, until April 14, 2012. Through 50 paintings equally divided between the two artists, this exhibition explores the unique niche each has found as the offspring of a famous artist while also presenting a pairing of painters whose works are complimentary in color, media, and subject choice. Shot over a period of five years, from the birth of the orchestra to its first successful public performances, The Orchestra of Piazza Vittorio brings together thirty professional and street musicians of eleven different nationalities, representing a microcosm of the cultural diversity of contemporary Italy. Mangia Piano: A Campus Event on The Internationalization of Italian Local Foodways

Stimulated by the explosion of interest in the Italian diet over the past couple of decades, this two-day event was an opportunity to contextualize and re-assess the meaning of Italian food through an inter-departmental effort led by the Inserra Chair in Italian and Italian American Studies (Department of Spanish and Italian), with the collaboration of the Global Education Center, the Coccia Institute for the Italian Experience in America, and the Food Management Program (Department of Health and Nutrition Science). Relay for Life at Montclair State

On April 27th and 28th, Montclair State University will host Relay For Life, an overnight relay-style event to raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer. At the event, teams of people camp out around a track. Members of each team take turns walking around the track for the duration of the event. Food, games, and activities provide entertainment and fundraising opportunities in a family-friendly environment for the entire community. [View full details]

Ahluwalia, Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Leadership in the College of Education and Human Services, has been named a recipient of the Counselors for Social Justice 'Ohana Award. Red Hawk Math Learning Center Opens in Schmitt Hall

With the creation of the Red Hawk Mathematics Learning Center, Montclair State University has implemented an innovative, exciting, and successful approach to mathematics education. The Red Hawk Mathematics Learning Center (RHMLC) is a mathematics “emporium” style computer-aided learning facility. Scholarships Make a Real Difference for Our Students

Scholarships make a huge difference in the lives of Montclair State students. Scholarship support enables students to participate more fully in the academic, civic, and social life of the University community and helps prepare them to assume leadership roles in society after graduation. “My scholarship provided an opportunity to not worry about finances,” says Natasha Alvarado ’13. “Many students fear college debt. 1987 National Championship Baseball Team to be Honored at Doubleheader

Alumni are invited to a special doubleheader baseball game on Saturday, April 28 beginning at 11:30 a.m. Twenty-five years after their championship season, the 1987 National Championship Baseball Team will come together again as the group will be honored during the Red Hawks' home doubleheader at Yogi Berra Stadium against The College of New Jersey. Women's Outdoor Track and Field Ranked in USTFCCCA Preseason Poll

The Montclair State women's outdoor track and field team was ranked No. 33 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Preseason Division III poll recently announced. The Red Hawks, who are off to a fast start after posting several personal bests at Virginia Commonwealth's Rams Invite on March 17, also placed two athletes in the Top 10 in their respective events. Sophomore Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ, Rutherford), who finished as the national runner up in the 400 meter hurdles in 2011, is ranked No. 1 in the latest rankings while junior Ashadaya Patterson (Trenton, NJ, Northern Burlington) is at No. 10 in the 100 meter hurdle rankings. Jeff Zarrillo '95

Jeff Zarrillo ’95 recently returned to campus for the one night only performance of “8”, the play about Proposition 8. Zarrillo, one of the original plaintiffs in the case, now lives in California, but came back to Montclair State University to see the play as well as to participate in a Q&A session after the performance. When asked about his recent visit, Zarrillo says: “Coming back to campus was an amazing feeling. I had dropped by about a year ago for the first time in years to buy a tee-shirt and see some of my old professors. I can’t believe how built up the campus is now.." [View full details]


Viviana Bernal '08 and Katherine McGhee '10

Viviana Bernal ’08 and Katherine McGhee ’10 have been chosen out of hundreds of applicants to present a workshop at the 2012 Forum of the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) in Istanbul, Turkey. The Forum runs from April 19-22, and takes place every three years, bringing together women leaders from all corners of the globe, with the intention of creating a better, more just and sustainable world for all. Bernal earned her degree in Women’s and Gender Studies and is now a Program Assistant for the program. McGhee studied Anthropology and minored in Women’s and Gender Studies as well.[View full details]
