athletes to honor Coach Jerry Edwards
Manny Scrofani '61 has organized an event to honor Coach Jerry
Edwards to be held on June 1, noon to 5 p.m. at the Valley Regency,
Valley Rd., Clifton. The cost is $50 and includes buffet lunch and
tour of the MSU campus. Checks should be made payable to the
Montclair State University Foundation and sent to Jeanette Hanlein,

be displayed in Sprague Library this fall to commemorate the
University's 100th anniversary.

Sunshine State Alumni Get
Together
On March 11, alumni from the Fort
Lauderdale/Coral Springs area came out to talk about MSU and
share memories. They had such a good time, plans are already
underway to gather again soon.

Congratulations to MSU's Women's
Basketball
Montclair State captured its fifth ECAC
Division III Metro Women’s Basketball Championship with an 85-70
victory over No. 2 seed and defending champion Farmingdale State
on March 2. The Red Hawks finished their season at
18-10 winning nine of their final 10 contests. The championship
is the first ECAC crown for MSU since 1999. Montclair State was
making its 13th appearance in the ECAC Tournament and seventh
trip to the championship game.

Grandparents of High School Seniors!
Each year, the Montclair State University Alumni Association
provides one, one-year scholarship known as the Legacy
Scholarship to an entering, full-time freshman who is the child
or grandchild of an alumna/us who is either a Pride Member or a
Life Member of the MSU Alumni Association

The Alumni Legacy
Scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need, as
determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid, and academic
achievement as determined by the Office of Admissions.
Interested students must file the free application for
Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA) in the winter of their senior year of high
school, indicating MSU as one of the recipients. A completed
application form
and the accompanying 200 word essay must be
received by the Office of Alumni Relations by April 30, 2007.
Memorial Service for
Dr. Harry Hoitsma
A service will be held on Sunday, April 22 at
2 p.m. in Kops Lounge, Russ Hall to celebrate the life of Harry
Hoitsma, who died last fall at the age of 77. Hoitsma was the
founding chairperson of the Department of Health Professions and
served from 1971 to 1995 when he retired.
Under his leadership, the Department began with two other
faculty and grew to include 11 full time faculty members plus 20
adjuncts, who served as many as 200 undergraduate and graduate
majors a year preparing for careers in health education and the
allied health sciences. He was instrumental in the negotiations
that led to the annexing of the New Jersey School of
Conservation,
a unit of state government in need of strong
institutional support, into MSU. If you are interested in

Pulitzer Prize- winning poet
University Hall Conference Center, 12:30 p.m
Mark Strand, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and
former United States poet laureate, will visit
Montclair State for a free poetry-reading and
book-signing. Strand is the author of numerous
works of poetry and prose including the Pulitzer
Prize-winning "Blizzard of One" and his most
recent collection, "Man and Camel." He is also
the subject of an upcoming book by Montclair
State University alumnus James Nicosia.
Reading Mark Strand: His Collected Works,
Career, and the Poetics of the Privative,
will chronicle Strand's poetic career. The event is presented by Montclair State
University's College of the Humanities and
Social Sciences Visiting Writers Committee and
the Department of English.
