MSUAA President Named to
Middle States Board
The Middle States
Association Commission on Secondary Schools named Dr.
Frank Alvarez, '76, president of the Montclair State University
Alumni Association, as a member of its board of commissioners to
help promote the improvement of secondary education through
accreditation and foster communication between secondary schools
and institutions of higher education.
As superintendent of the
Montclair Public Schools since 2003, Alvarez serves as the
Northern New Jersey voice among the new commissioners. He
previously served the district as principal of Nishuane and Mt.
Hebron Schools from 1989-94. Prior to arriving in Montclair, he
was the superintendent of the River Vale Schools in Bergen
County. Alvarez has devoted his life to the promotion of
education and has served as a strong leader in the field,
especially among North Jersey educators.
“I’m excited about this new
opportunity to help promote the many facets of education and
help all schools work to better serve their students’ needs,”
said Alvarez.
Alumni
receive Carpe Diem honors at the Annual Dinner
Montclair State held its 8th Annual Dinner on April 26 in
University Hall. This year’s dinner was devoted to celebrating
the John J. Cali School of Music and featured an array of
performances by students from the College of the Arts. Proceeds
from this year’s event will go toward student scholarships.
The Carpe
Diem Award honors especially distinguished Montclair State
University alumni and friends, recognizing them for their
outstanding professional and personal achievements.

Scott, are supporting the purchase of a new practice organ,
which will be housed in a recital room named in memory of her
beloved teacher, David Messineo. Mr. and Mrs. Williams have also
named a lecture hall in University Hall.
