Thousands Came Home to Celebrate on Saturday, Oct. 9!

Montclair State University community members, their families, and friends from surrounding communities were treated to a picture-perfect day and plenty of fabulous entertainment as they all joined together on October 9 to celebrate the University’s 2010 Homecoming and Family Day. With events scheduled from morning to night, there was something to satisfy everyone there, whether they were students, alumni, family members, faculty and staff, friends, or neighbors. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Opens Montclair State’s Newest Residential Facility, the Francis A. Sinatra Hall
With the traditional ribbon cutting as the centerpiece, the opening ceremony was hosted by Montclair State University’s Vice President for Student Development and Campus Life Karen L. Pennington and featured remarks from Little Falls Mayor Michael DeFrancisci, as well as Montclair State’s Student Government Association President Chris Goscinski, Residence Leadership Council President Alyssa Stokes, and Sinatra Hall’s community assistant, Joe Zobel.

Broadcaster of the Year Award Presented to Brenda Blackmon
Four-time Emmy Award-winning My9 News anchor Brenda Blackmon was presented with the 2010 Allen B. DuMont Broadcaster of the Year Award at Montclair State University’s DuMont Television Center on October 8. Homecoming Reunion for Athletes
Alumni celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the 1960 undefeated football team during Homecoming. Team members, cheerleaders and friends returned to campus for a reunion luncheon and special recognition ceremony during the Homecoming game. Click here for photos of the day's events.

Recent Graduates Walk for Charity
Nutley, New Jersey, natives and brand-new Montclair State University alumni
Rob Bonora ’10 and Anthony Greco ’10 recently returned home from a 2,912-mile cross-county cancer awareness walk. Their “Coast to Coast for a Cure” marathon raised roughly $65,000 in donations for Gail’s Angels, a nonprofit dedicated to helping families whose mothers have breast cancer and whose children have autism; Derek’s Dreams, a foundation for children with ataxia telangiectasia, a rare, neurodegenerative, inherited disease; and the St. Jude’s Foundation. The two best friends also wanted to stress the importance of a healthy lifestyle. (View full article)
Filmmaking Student’s Documentary Wins Multiple Awards
After a 30-year career in still photography, Dennis Connors decided to expand into moving pictures, enrolled in Montclair State University’s filmmaking program, and created a short documentary film that is not only being screened at film festivals around the country, but is also winning awards.
