The Office of Alumni Relations has partnered with The Center for Career Services and Executive Career Coach, Rob Hellmann, to provide a summer career resource series including three webinars and an in-person workshop.

The Six Keys to Success on the Job – August 23

To truly succeed in your job or career, you need to go beyond just “doing a good job.” Work-life has gotten more complicated; you need to actively manage your career trajectory, your work relationships, and your bosses’ perceptions of your work. How to do this? By following the “six keys” to job success.

  1. The old goal was “Job Security”; The new goal is “Marketability”.
  2. Manage Up, Down and Across
  3. Know when it’s time to move on.
  4. Develop a longer-term vision and a detailed plan. Have a “career” not a “job”.
  5. Build and maintain a network
  6. Demonstrate leadership, from whatever level you are at in the organization.

In this talk, we will discuss how following these precepts will enable you to boost your on-the-job success, and set yourself up for the raises, promotions, and career advancement opportunities you want. We will also discuss specifically the elements that need to be in place for you to get promoted. If you plan on attending, please register online by August 18. You may also register by contacting Katarina Nordqvist, Office of Alumni Relations, at 973-655-3323 or nordqvistk@montclair.edu. Registration is required.

Summer Webinar Series

Our third and final summer career webinar, Applicant Tracking Systems: What You Need to Know For Your Job Search, will take place on August 22, from noon-1:00 p.m. We invite you to view past recordings of our first two webinars, Take the Work out of Networking and Confidently Speaking!

“In an ongoing effort to reach a greater number of alumni, we’re now happy to offer career development webinars,” says Adam Mayer ’00 MA, Director of Career Development. “Whether on the computer, smartphone or tablet, alumni can now engage with meaningful career related topics from anywhere. If attending the live webinar doesn’t fit their schedule, it’s not a problem. We archive the webinars, so access is always there.”

Alumni have access to one-on-one career counseling appointments which are offered through the Community Counseling Clinic in the Center for Clinical Services located at 35 Clove Road, Little Falls, NJ. Please call 973-655-3407 to make an appointment. We also invite you to visit our online portal, MONTCLAIRconnect, to view additional online resources available to alumni.
