Class of 1964 Reunion Recap
Members of the classes of 1964, 1959, and members of earlier classes (50+) returned to campus on Friday, May 23, for the annual reunion celebration and luncheon. Alumni traveled from near and far to commemorate the occasion. The events of the day provided opportunities for alumni to participate in the University’s 2014 Commencement exercises where 4,382 degrees were conferred. President Susan A. Cole presided over the exercises and the Commencement address was delivered by award-winning author, James B. Patterson, best known for his suspense and thriller novels.
Alumni visited with former classmates and renewed old friendships, reminisced, and toured campus to experience the exciting changes that have taken place at Montclair State University since their student days.
Among the alumni that attended, collectively they have had 184 children, 288 grandchildren, and 21 of the attendees found their sweethearts through their alma mater.
The Class of 1964 50th reunion was led by a committee that included Linda Borella Albanese, Arlene Crescenzi Allen, George R. Gross, Barbara Tyll Mainenti, Charles “Chuck” Mainenti and Roseann Autorino Raniszewski.
In his remarks, Chuck greeted his former classmates:
“Remember the time we spent at the College High School observing our professors giving us valuable lessons on “how to teach our subject matter”? How about those special days at Camp Wapalonne? Now tell me that was not FUN! What memories we have to share and here we are today to reminisce and enjoy being together again. I hope the students who are on campus today have the time and interest to enjoy ALL that Montclair State University has to offer them.”
The Albanese's, Linda and Donald, both graduates of the class of 1964 also expressed their appreciation:
"Thank you for such a wonderful two day celebration of our 50th anniversary alumni. It was so elegant in every way. You may have honored us, but we were proud to have honored the class of 2014 with our presence at the commencement ceremony. May we all continue to live by our motto (Carpe Diem). Congratulations to all!"
Cosimo “Cos” Sciarrone was thankful for the opportunity to reunite with former classmates. "It was a heartwarming event seeing and hugging all our 'ol pals 'n gals. The list of those that have passed made this a kind of bittersweet homecoming but time does indeed take it's toll. Continue with your great work. Thanks and Carpe Diem."
Members of the class of 1959, celebrating their 55th Reunion, began to buzz about forming their committee to begin plans to celebrate their 60th. Pat Crosby Ackershoek and fellow 1959 classmates were excited to be back on campus for the day. Our 50+ celebrants reveled in the changes on campus and talked about campus as it was when they were students here. Rev. Dr. Audrey Vincentz Leef ’43 offered an invocation to begin the Luncheon celebration.
