Whether you want to help with career advice, share your Montclair State experience with a prospective student, speak to your local legislators about the role that MSU had or has in your life or just want to help out with alumni events, we welcome your participation.
There are countless opportunities to give back and the best part is you choose your level of involvement. What counts is that you want to make a difference. And there is no better time to start than right now.
Advocate for Higher Education - Contact your local legislator, write an e-mail or letter, or actively engage in the
process at the state capital. Help keep higher education a priority with your elected officials. Don’t know how to contact your legislator? Click here for information.
Did you know that your alma mater is participating in a statewide coalition to champion higher education in New Jersey? Nine Strong for a Stronger New Jersey… is a new effort to educate citizens about the collective strength and value to New Jersey of the nine state colleges and universities and understand the connection between these nine institutions of higher learning, the Garden State’s strength and our children and grandchildren’s future. Read about the “Nine
Strong for a Stronger New Jersey” initiative and join the NJ College Promise Action Network.
Become an Online Mentor - Volunteering your time to an MSU student or recent graduate by sharing your experience, expertise and knowledge to help them develop professionally is a rewarding experience. Students who visit the Career Center on campus are often seeking advice about "the real world of work." It takes just a few minutes of your time to respond to a student's e-mail. A little goes a long way. You can register to become an online mentor via Career Directions here.
Have some fun - Attend a cultural event, visit the George Segal Art Gallery or see a production at the Alexander Kasser Theater and bring some friends along. Attend an athletic event and cheer our teams on to victory. Participate in lectures and seminars hosted by academic departments, centers
and special programs on campus. Visit the Sprague Library and stop at Cafe Diem for a coffee and snack. Start today, view the Campus Calendar of Events.
Help plan or host an event in your area - Be it a picnic, a networking social or something around a special event in
your hometown - we’re seeking ways to reach out to MSU alumni and families all over the globe. Welcome an MSU graduate to your community.
Initiate a Chapter or Group in your area or join an existing one - By working with alumni volunteers to help plan activities or networking events, we hope to build a strong network of regional alumni chapters and affinity groups. MSU Alumni chapters and groups will provide MSU graduates all over the world with opportunities to network, assist in their local communities, socialize and recruit top students to Montclair State University.
Keep informed - Read the MSU Alumni Connections e-newsletter each month or sign up to receive each monthly issue by sharing your e-mail address with us. And be sure to read Montclair State Alumni Magazine from cover to cover.
Make every event count! - Volunteer to help staff special events like Homecoming, Admissions Open House Events or
Move In Day - remember when? It is a great way to see old friends, make new friends and share your MSU pride.
Provide jobs and internships - Work with Career Services to assist current MSU students in a number of ways. There is a demand for
quality internships for our students. We need alumni who are
successful in their fields to mentor students or come back to campus and share their experiences. We're also seeking employers who are in a position to hire our highly qualified graduates. View the Career Services Web site or contact them at 973-655-5194.
Recruit students to follow in your footsteps - Share your thoughts with prospective students and their families. No one can tell the story better than you! Talk to your neighbors, friends and family about the opportunities at MSU and perhaps offer to escort a prospective student to campus for a tour. The Office of Admissions offers regularly scheduled tours. http://www.montclair.edu/admissions/visit.html.
Register in the MSU Alumni Online Community - The official MSU Alumni Online Directory is an opt-in, password-protected website offering a searchable alumni directory, chapters and groups pages, classified ads, message boards, blogs, class notes with photos, photo galleries, and more! Get started today!
Shout about your recent accomplishments - Everyone enjoys reading about the successes of fellow classmates and friends. Post your class notes to the Online Community or submit your note via our Web site.
Support the Annual Fund - By doing so, you allow the University to place resources where they are needed most or where opportunities are the greatest. Annual Fund dollars support areas such as scholarships, improvements to classrooms, laboratories and other campus facilities, new program development and a number of other important programs and services that often would not be funded through tuition and state appropriations. There are many ways to give back, see how.
Wear it! Say it! Display it! - Don your Montclair State University t-shirt, cap or sweatshirt and go out jogging, walking, shopping, etc. You’d be surprised how many people will notice and say – “Hey, are you a student or graduate from MSU?” It's a great conversations starter. And be sure to put an MSU decal or window cling on your car. Purchase your MSU goods and apparel here.
Where are you now? - If you’ve moved recently or changed jobs, let us know. E-mail us with your new information at alumni@mail.montclair.edu.
