MEMORANDUM
TO: American Democracy Project Participants
FROM: George L. Mehaffy
SUBJECT: Registration for the American Democracy Project Meeting, June 15-17, 2006
The registration materials are now available on the AASCU website at http://www.aascu.org/meetings/06_adp_nm/default.htm. Mark your calendars and plan to join us in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains for our upcoming American Democracy Project National Meeting.
Our focus this year will be on assessing how far we have come and what our next steps should be as we prepare our students to be fully participating members of our democracy. We have an outstanding program planned with terrific plenary speakers.
James Joseph, former ambassador to South Africa, currently executive director, United States-Southern Africa Center for Leadership and Public Values, Duke University
Frances Moore Lappe, author of "Diet for a Small Planet" and newly released "Democracy's Edge", and director of the Small Planet Institute in Cambridge, Mass.
Brian Murphy, president of De Anza Community College in California
Mallory Wall, president, Student Government Association, McNeese State University; board member, University of Louisiana System representing over 85,000 students
Mary Kirlin, professor of Political Science at California State University, Sacramento
There will also be workshops, campus showcases, opportunities for small group discussions and more. This is going to be a very rich program, both a celebration of accomplishment and a dialogue about future initiatives.
If you are interested in making a presentation, please be sure to complete the web presentation proposal form which I sent out several weeks ago (attached). The deadline is February 21, 2006.
Please join us for another inspiring summer event!
