Intergenerational Dance Workshop

In April 2009, in partnership with the Dance Division, we invited artist-choreographers Julie Gayer and Mark Lamb to follow the Liz Lerman model and work with the Montclair Arts council and our students and launched the Dance in the Community: Intergenerational Dance Project.
This project aims to explore the effect of creative movement on individuals, especially late in life; to involve older persons in dance activities and observe the effect on mental and general health, overall functioning and sense of well-being. These workshops are geared towards adults 55 years and older and will focus on how to utilize dance/movement as a creative means for exploration, reflection and self expression.

"The Creative Aging Initiative (CAI) is designed to connect older adults to arts and culture. It embraces a belief that engagement by older adults in arts and culture can result in benefits in personal growth within a context of support and socialization. This philosophy has been supported by research findings and reports on best practices in programming for older adults. The CAI has conducted a number of awareness programs and arts programs in photography/storytelling, creative writing, intergenerational dance and acting."
