Art Lectures at CART
The Department of Art & Design offers three lecture programs designed to introduce MSU students to some of the most influential arts professionals of our time. While programs focus primarily on the needs of MSU's graduate and undergraduate students, members of the public are invited to attend. Some presentations require a nominal admission; others are free.
Art Forum | MSU-MAM: Art Talks | MFA Lecture Series
Art Forum is a weekly program for undergraduate and graduate students, and the public. The program brings in artists, designers, art historians and art critics from around the world to present their work and ideas in an open forum. Past guests have included Chakaia Booker, Will Cotton, Aziz + Cucher, Inka Essenhigh, Judy Fox, Roxy Paine, Ursala Von Rydingsvard, and Seymour Chwast. MSU-MAM: Art Talks are an off-shoot of the MFA Lecture Series and also a collaboration with the Montclair Art Museum. Lectures are either on campus or hosted by the museum in its distinguished Leir Hall, located on the ground floor of the museum at 3 South Mountain Ave., Montclair, N.J. Past speakers have included notable artists, historians and critics such as Leo Steinberg, David Hickey, Roberta Smith, Arthur Danto, William Wegman, Chakaia Booker, James Rosenquist, Xu Bing, and Tony Oursler. MFA Lecture Series is a program for graduate and undergraduate students, sponsored by MSU's Master of Fine Arts Program, offering presentations and critical discourse with highly recognized and distinguished figures in the contemporary art world. Past speakers have included notable artists such as Kiki Smith. Keith Sonnier, Cathy Opie, Eric Fischl, and Janine Antoni (past speakers.) Programs are scheduled Wednesday nights in Calcia Hall on the MSU campus. Admission is free.
