Portfolio to Include: 1. Application Form (download and complete) 2. Resume 3. Letters of recommendation (2 minimum) 4. A photocopy of your recent cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA requirement for admission to the department is 2.75) or a photocopy of your high school or college transcript. 5. A 200-word typed statement that demonstrates your understanding of the discipline of communication and how your choice of concentration relates to your future career goals. (You are are strongly advised to consult the Department’s web pages and reference the overall program of study for majors as well as the required coursework for the chosen concentration in your statement). Incomplete portfolios will not be accepted by the department Step Three – Contact the Department of Communication Studies to indicate date/time for submission of portfolio. On the day the portfolio is submitted, you will be asked to complete an in-house writing sample lasting approximately 45 minutes.

Following the review of your portfolio, the Department will notify you via email regarding the admission decision.
Freshmen and Transfer Students - The Department will also forward its recommendation to the Admissions Office, which in turn will notify you of your status (normally within two weeks of portfolio submission).
Current MSU Students – After receiving the email from the Department of Communication Studies, please contact the office to set an appointment for academic advising.
