As of Spring Semester 2012, the Department no longer requires individual applicant interviews, but applicants MUST still complete the on-line Student Appointment Scheduler/Application in order to be considered for entry to the Department
  • The on-line STUDENT APPOINTMENT SCHEDULER / APPLICATION will ask you to indicate your intended concentration or area of interest and provide us the following information:
    • Your understanding of the Department's curriculum
    • Your job experience, if it is applicable to your intended concentration or area of interest
    • A brief essay describing your interests or experiences in the Communication field or in the Media Arts field

Current MSU Students

  • Students already enrolled at Montclair State University who wish to change their existing Major or to add a Minor in Communication Studies will need to meet the minimum requirement of a 3.0 GPA. We recommend that applicants review the Department's curriculum and determine their area of interest within the Major.
  • Appointments are arranged via the STUDENT APPOINTMENT SCHEDULER (please contact Department Admissions Coordinator.) In scheduling the appointment, applicants will be asked to indicate their intended concentration and provide the following information:
    • Description of a topic that is of great interest to you.
    • Job experience, if applicable
    • Brief essay describing how you feel the Communication Studies coursework will support your career goals.
  • Please bring a photocopy of your "Analysis of Academic Progress" printed from WESS to the Interview appointment. You are encouraged to ask any questions you may have regarding the Department and its curriculum. Be prepared to discuss your reasons for choosing the specific concentration, as your knowledge of the coursework that you plan to take is assessed in the interview, as well as your verbal skills in communicating your goals.

At the end of your interview, you will be advised if you have been accepted into the Department of Communication Studies. Appropriate forms for the declaration of a Major/Minor will be submitted by the Department Administrator to the Center for Academic Advising for processing.
