Welcome to the Dance Division of the
Department of Theatre & Dance

You love to dance...it is your passion and your dream! Turning that dream
into reality takes zeal, discipline and a place that brings it all together.
The Dance Division at MSU is such a place – a place where students can earn
a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Dance or a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Dance Education without sacrificing a liberal arts education. To gain the full benefits of both, in fact, some students “double major,” satisfying their dance interests while at the same time studying business, communication studies or pursuing any one of MSU’s 250 academic programs.

At Montclair State, dance students are trained in a safe and caring environment by a distinguished and reputable faculty. At the core of the curriculum are technique and performance including daily classes in ballet, modern and/or jazz.

 

Key to the program are opportunities to rehearse and perform with the MSU Repertory Dance Company including pieces choreographed by guest artists, faculty, alumni and peers. Students also choreograph their own pieces for concerts staged in the MSU Dance Theatre (our main facility), the Alexander Kasser Theater (our newest/flagship facility) and Memorial Auditorium on campus.

The MSU Dance Division is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance and is a member of the American College Dance Festival Association, distinguishing it among programs regionally as well as nationally.
