It is both a delight and a privilege that I write to you as Montclair State University’s new dean of the College of the Arts. Well before joining the faculty and administration, I knew the University as an exceptional place and the College of the Arts as a locus for some of the region’s most progressive academic and cultural programs. The faculty and students here are exceptional and I am proud to be a part of this impressive community.
The Fall 2012 newsletter introduces the new School of Communication and Media, with both new and expanded academic offerings, as well as an enriched array of interdisciplinary programs. Complementing the School are media partnerships with NJTV, New Jersey Public Radio, and the New Jersey News Commons, all a part of a mix that is producing extraordinary collaborative opportunities here. Meanwhile, the John J. Cali School of Music continues to showcase our students in some singular venues ranging from rowboats to Carnegie Hall. Back on campus, the Department of Art and Design’s MFA students are opening their studios to the public, while our Theatre and Dance Department majors are performing a season of challenging and diverse works.
The Academic Departments' On the Move sections (links on the far-right side of the newsletter) include some of the latest academic news and accomplishments of our faculty, students and graduates. Be sure to read also about the debut of a landmark Creative Thinking course offered last summer. Students, faculty and everyone connected with it can't stop singing its praises.
I hope that, as you read along, you will discover reasons to become even more involved with the College of the Arts at Montclair State. I hope to see you on campus for our Peak Performances series, Segal Gallery exhibits or any of our many other college events.
With all best wishes,
