Greetings from the Department of Theatre and Dance.
It’s been a productive spring semester in the Department, marked by "sold out" productions, students receiving awards and inspiring visitors coming to campus. We just wrapped up Danceworks 2014, the annual dance program featuring works by leading contemporary choreographers, performed by our dance and theatre students. On top of that, 19 of the department’s dancers returned from the annual Northeast Regional American College Dance Festival held March 12 through 16 at The College at Brockport, in Brockport, N.Y. Montclair State was the only school to have both of its entries selected for inclusion in the festival’s closing Gala performance with Oh My Love, choreographed by dance faculty member Earl Mosley, selected to perform at the National American College Dance Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. (Read more here.)
Earlier this semester, the department produced 42nd Street, which received record attendance and considerable acclaim. There was also a musical in concert performance of City of Angels, which was successfully staged in the Leshowitz Recital Hall. Our Touring Company, Theatre On The Move, had a successful run visiting 16 school in the area with their current show Breaking the Cycle, which tackles the most current social issues students face in their daily lives. The BFA Acting and Musical Theatre Senior Showcase was held in the NYC with some of our students getting representation. We will finish up the semester with the productions of Middletown and Big Meal in the L. Howard Fox Theatre.
There is so much more that we are excited about. Scroll down to read more about these and other newsworthy items from the Department. We hope to see you in the theatre.
