Industrial Design Program Redesigns Montclair Animal Shelter

Dr. Denis Feigler, Industrial Design Program Director in the Department of Art and Design, was approached by the Township of Montclair in April to assist in the redesign and renovation of the Montclair Animal Shelter, formerly known as PAWS.

A group of BFA students in the Industrial Design program designed interior habitat environments for the new animal shelter, and their designs were unveiled during the official opening of the shelter on Friday, May 8, 2009. Fellow Industrial Design Professor, Dr. Winfield Parsons, will be donating materials from his award-winning firm, Parsons’ Cabinetry, and will also be overseeing the work of the students as they fabricate and install their interior designs throughout the summer. This project is only the first phase of a continuing collaboration between the Township of Montclair and the Industrial Design Program of MSU. Discussions are already underway regarding future research projects for the town.
