OECO hosts Theatre Night Awards and Theatre Day for Teachers – May 21st

The 2nd Annual MSU Theatre Night Awards is scheduled for May 21st at 7pm in Memorial Auditorium. Theatre Night Awards provides a statewide opportunity to recognize excellence in non-musical play production in NJ high schools and middle schools. Distinguished actors and directors from the NY and NJ theatre scenes will be on hand to offer words of inspiration and encouragement to an audience of over 500 high school students and their teachers and parents.  Please visit the website at http://www.montclair.edu/arts/teachertraining/index.html

The 3rd Annual MSU Theatre Day for Teachers is scheduled for May 21st on campus , from 8:00am – 2pm. Theatre Day for Teachers provides opportunities for High School and Middle School Theatre Educators to meet colleagues, engage in stimulating workshops, discuss common issues in networking sessions, and swap production ideas. Approximately sixty NJ school districts were represented in this event in 2008, and again in 2009. Six Professional Development hours can be earned. Please visit the website at:

MSU Chorale & Children's Choir of Sussex County –
FREE CONCERT

In keeping with the College of the Arts’ mission to extend its cultural resources to the broader community, the Office of Education and Community Outreach has partnered with the John J Cali School of Music to offer a free concert on April 23, 2010, at 11:30am in the Alexander Kasser Theater.

Under the direction of conductor Heather J. Buchanan, the 150-voice MSU Chorale joins forces with the Children’s Choir of Sussex County, (Deborah Mello, conductor) to present Benjamin Britten’s Op.42 Cantata Saint Nicolas featuring tenor Peter Gillis in the role of Nicolas.  Universally known to children in his disguise of ‘Santa Claus,’ Saint Nicolas is the hero of many popular legends. He lived and died during the first half of the 4thcentury and is the patron-saint of children, seamen, travelers, Russia and Greece. MSU Latino(a) Caucus Annual Lecture Series

OECO will co-sponsor the inaugural lecture for this series, featuring Pedro Noguera, Ph.D., on March 30, 2010 at 4pm, in University Hall Room 1040. Pedro Noguera’s research addresses issues of education, power, diversity, and social justice.
