Montclair State Partners with Opera New Jersey to Present Third Annual Curtain Call Award

Montclair State University’s Department of Communication Studies and Opera New Jersey will cohost the third annual Curtain Call Award vocal competition.  The finals will take place in the Jed Leshowitz Recital Hall in the John A. Cali School of Music on the University Campus at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 3.  The Curtain Call Award was created in 2010 by the Department of Communication Studies’ Public Relations students at Montclair State to provide a showcase for talented high school students who enjoy singing opera.  Read the full article.

 


Montclair Creates School of Communication and Media

Montclair State University’s Board of Trustees has approved the creation of a new School of Communication and Media. The new school will combine existing, high-quality degree programs with new offerings to provide an unparalleled educational experience to students entering this rapidly changing industry. Montclair State Students Organize Successful Cancer Fund-raiser

Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller joined comics Sunda Croonquist and Kerri Louise for an ovarian cancer fund-raiser held in the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) on November 17.  The event raised thousands for the center’s foundation, but, more importantly, was a highly successful showcase for the Montclair State University Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), which conceived, promoted, and co-hosted the event. Post-9/11 Symposium Brings an Interdisciplinary Perspective to the Terrorist Attacks

A diverse cross-section of the Montclair State University community met together at a symposium in Memorial Auditorium on October 12 to reflect upon the events of September 11, 2001, and to discuss how America has changed since then. Titled “Imagination in the Post-9/11 World: How Have We Changed?” the symposium was organized by the Creative Research Center in observance of the tenth anniversary of the events of that day. Winner of 2011 Curtain Call Award is Announced

Montclair State University and the Metropolitan Opera Guild joined forces again to offer the second annual Curtain Call Awards. The event was held on Saturday, June 4, at the John A. Cali School of Music.  Competing against three other finalists, junior Katherine Crabill of Montgomery High School was selected the 2011 winner. Montclair State University Communication Studies' graduates Jenna Rocca and Lauren Hanson were again the event hosts. Read the full article.

Michael Price, Montclair State alumnus and an Emmy and Writer’s Guild award-winning writer/producer currently working on The Simpsons, held a question-and-answer session on March 8. Read the full article.

Inaugural Curtain Call Award Showcases N.J.’s Outstanding High School Classical Singers

The first Curtain Call Award competition was held in the Jed Leshowitz Recital Hall at the John J. Cali School of Music on June 5. Conceived as a partnership between the Metropolitan Opera Guild and Montclair State by students in the Communication Studies Department, the competition showcased New Jersey’s top classically trained high school juniors and seniors. Sarah Merten, a senior at Bernards High School, was selected as the event’s very first winner. Read the full article.
