The New Jersey Arts Education Census Project’s published report- WITHIN OUR POWER: The Progress, Plight and Promise of Arts Education for Every Child (9/18/07) clearly states the need for ongoing professional development. In its Findings it reports that "18% of elementary schools and 23% of middle/high schools have no professional development activities for teachers in arts education." In the Recommendations the report states, "We recommend that the New Jersey State Department of Education and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts work with the professional arts education associations in the state and the state’s institutions of higher education to develop and expand professional development opportunities for visual and performing arts educators."

Montclair State University is committed to fulfilling these goals. The College of the Arts is committed to providing quality teacher professional development and training to K- 12 teachers, arts professionals and teaching artists.
