The mission of Student Development
for Athletes (SDA) is to provide a comprehensive support program for all
student-athletes at Montclair State University that promotes academic
success, a positive athletic experience and overall personal growth. The
SDA program is made up of two components, Academic Services and the CHAMPS
Life/Skills program.
The staff at SDA is committed to working closely with coaches, faculty/staff
and student services on campus to help student-athletes balance the demands
of their academic responsibilities and athletic endeavors. In doing this,
we hope to encourage a progressive and resourceful environment to learn.
ACADEMIC
SERVICES
SDA assists student-athletes
with planning out their schedules and career in academics over the next
several years. Information is given to students about appropriate college
advising centers and assistance. Registration guidance, advisement and
major/minor information is also provided for all student-athletes. The
student-athletes at MSU receive personal attention from the Academic Advisors
for Athletics in order to provide the student-athletes the opportunity
to "help athletes help themselves" by linking the athletic and
the academic community.

With this in mind, the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program was created to support
the student-athlete development initiatives of NCAA member institutions
and to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience within the
