ROB CHESNEY
Associate Director
of Athletics

Rob Chesney is in his fifth year as the Associate Director of Athletics, a position he took over in 2001. Chesney assists in the day-to-day operations of the department and coordinates all team contest and practice schedules while also managing Montclair State's Red Hawk Pride fundraising endeavor. He was very involved in the construction of the MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field, which opened in 1999 and worked on the newly renovated Sprague Field project.

Chesney's association with Montclair State dates back to the mid 1980s where he was one of the best players to don a Montclair State soccer uniform. A two-time All-American and four-year All-Conference and All-Region selection, Chesney led the Red Hawks to the 1989 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship and was named the league's Player of the Year. Montclair reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament that season.

Two years later, Chesney became the 11th head men's soccer coach in school history and compiled a 128-64-18 mark, a .652 winning percentage, which included four appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament as well as on ECAC Division III Metro title in 1993. He was also named the Coach of the Year by the College Soccer Association of New Jersey (CSANJ).

Chesney, who served on several championship committees, including the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Committee, was inducted into the Montclair State Hall of Fame in 2000.

A dual graduate of Montclair State, Chesney earned his bachelor's degree in marketing and completed his master's in Sports Administration in 1991. He currently resides in Oakland, NJ with his wife Vicki and three children - Megan, Ian and Brooke.
