RED HAWK STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TO NJAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Montclair, NJ (6/8/05) - Montclair State University softball sophomore Crystal Dahlhaus and football sophomore George Makdis were among the 252 student-athletes named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for the 2004-05 academic year.
Dahlhaus and Makdis were named to the First Team, while field hockey junior Jaimie Lukacs and men’s soccer sophomore Bill Anthes were Second Team selections and 36 other Red Hawk student-athletes in baseball, basketball, cross country, field hockey, football, softball, women’s soccer, women’s tennis, and men’s track and field were chosen Honorable Mention.
To be eligible for the squad, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior who is a starter or significant contributor in a conference-sponsored sport. In addition, a student-athlete must possess a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and have appeared in a minimum of 50 percent of their team's contests.
Dahlhaus, who is majoring in Mathematics/Teacher Education, started all 38 MSU softball games in 2005, batting .228 with 17 hits, 23 runs and a .938 fielding percentage in helping Montclair State to its sixth straight ECAC Division III South title.
Makdis played in seven of MSU’s eight football contests in 2004, catching one pass as a running back and recording two tackles on special teams while majoring in Biology.
Lukacs, also majoring in Biology, played in 10 games at forward for the 2004 field hockey team, scoring one goal on 10 shots as Montclair State finished 12-7 overall.
Anthes, a defender majoring in Business Administration, recorded three goals and four assists for 10 points in 12 games last fall to finish third in men’s soccer team scoring as the Red Hawks went 14-4-2 on the season.
