STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY |
The ultimate goal of the Montclair State University athletic program
is for every student-athlete enrolled at the University to make progress
toward degree completion and graduation.

The intercollegiate athletic program is an integral part of the student-athlete’s overall educational experience and an integral component of the Division of Student Development and Campus Life. |

The health and welfare of each student is of primary importance. |
| 3. |
Athletic success is an important goal, but not at the sacrifice of academic success or good sportsmanship. Coaches, staff and student-athletes will comply with the Code of Conduct and compete with integrity and high ethical standards. |

The intercollegiate athletic program operates with the guidance of a campus wide Intercollegiate Athletic Council and follows all bylaws and regulations established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association and all other conference governing bodies. |

The intercollegiate athletic program operates with a professionally trained staff. |

The athletic program provides medical supervision and qualified athletic training support for student-athletes. |

The intercollegiate athletic program provides equipment and maintains facilities which conform to the official rules of each sport and to ensure the optimum health and safety of student-athletes. |

The athletic department offers equitable opportunities for both men and women and complies with the spirit and intent of Title IX and gender equity guidelines. |

The athletic department will promote and encourage community service and outreach. |

The intercollegiate athletic department will create an image and identity that fosters support for and pride in the University by the campus and local community.
