SCHIAVONE, DZIENKIEWICZ NAMED SKYLINE CONFERENCE PLAYER, ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

tclair, NJ (4/22/08) – Junior midfielder John Schiavone (Montclair, NJ / Montclair) and freshman Anthony Dzienkiewicz (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) (right) helped Montclair State take over first-place in the Skyline Conference last week. On Monday, the duo were named the league's Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Both players came up with big performances as the Red Hawks shut down New York Maritime in the second half in a 14-6 victory that vaulted MSU into the top spot in the Skyline standings. On Monday, Montclair clinched the Skyline regular-season title and No. 1 seed in the conference tournament which gets underway on April 30.

Schiavone had three goals, three assists, six ground balls and also won 10 of 19 faceoffs. With the score knotted at 6-6, Schiavone scored back-to-back goals in a span of 1:14 to put the Red Hawks on top for good. MSU outscored Maritime 10-0 in the second half for the victory.

Dzienkiewicz was part of a defensive effort that held Maritime scoreless in the second half as Montclair State rallied for the victory. In the game, Dzienkiewicz collected eight ground balls and tied teammate Patrick Ferry’s single-game school record with seven caused turnovers. He also contributed four ground balls in a defensive battle that Muhlenberg won 8-4.
